Position sensors with 10m range: Variohm EuroSensor adds new Celesco SK series cable extension sensors

Towcester – UK – October 2015: Variohm EuroSensor has expanded its position sensor range to include several new models that are available ex-stock from the ‘cable extension transducer’ specialist Celesco Inc.  Aimed at demanding applications in outdoor mobile equipment such as cranes, hoists and hydraulic lifts, the SK series also suits long range position monitoring for industrial machinery. The modular range offers stroke options of 6.4 and 10.2 metres with a variety of electrical interfaces, including CANbus, voltage and current output, in addition to a choice of plastic-hybrid potentiometer sensing or flange-mounted encoder.

With its glass-filled polycarbonate housing the durable SK series has an IP67 environmental rating and nominal dimensions of approximately 165mm x 109mm x 139mm (w x d x h). Installation in any orientation is very easy thanks to a rotatable mounting bracket - and alignment of the robust spring-loaded stainless steel measuring cable is non-critical. With maximum cable velocity to 1.5 m/sec and acceleration to 5g, the sensor has a life rating in excess of 250,000 cycles and operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C.

The specific models in the new SK series include four that feature Celesco’s well proven plastic-hybrid precision potentiometer offering a nominal accuracy of 0.35% FS. and repeatability of 0.05% FS. These models comprise the SKD with a user selectable 4..20 mA or 0..10V DC output; the SK1 with a voltage divider output; the SKH-CAN with a CANopen interface, and the SKJ-CAN with CANbus SAE J1939. A fifth model, the SK6-Encoder offers the possibility to incorporate any standard 2 ½ inch square flange or 58 mm synchro-flange encoder. Variohm can offer suitable encoders or users choose their own preferred model that suits the application in hand. Electrical interfacing is via an industry standard M12 connector.
