What is linear displacement?
“Displacement” is when something moves from its original “place” and “linear” means a straight line
Therefore; “Linear Displacement” can be defined as movement of an object in a linear fashion along a single axis in a straight line, for example; from side to side or up and down. Linear Displacement can be measured by non-contacting sensors such as LVDTs as well as other linear position sensors.
Linear Displacement is usually measured in millimetres or inches and has a positive and negative direction.

All of these applications involve measuring the movement of something in a linear fashion, therefore measuring linear displacement.
