Jordan wins The Engineering Trust Advanced/Higher Trevor Woodger MBE Award for Career Progression

Jordan Barber, our Engineering Manager, has recently received the Advanced/Higher Trevor Woodger MBE Award for Career Progression, presented by The Engineering Trust

These awards are to recognise and celebrate the achievements of those who have completed their apprenticeships, excelled in their businesses and have gone above and beyond.

After completing his apprenticeship with The Engineering Trust, Jordan joined the Open University where he studied and completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jordan has experience across multiple departments here at Variohm and has worked his way up in the business to become our Engineering Manager, where he is responsible for a team of 8.

Jordan started with Variohm in 2014 and his passion for designing products continues to help expand the Variohm product range, alongside his managerial responsibilities. You can read more about Jordan’s career progression to Engineering Manager here.

Jordan comments: ‘I am proud to have been nominated internally which has resulted in me winning the award. It’s fantastic to be recognised as a professional that embodies the meaning behind the award. Progressing from apprentice to management within 9 years just shows that with the right mindset and skillset, what seems unachievable at first can be conquered with perseverance and the right attitude. I hope this motivates other individuals who are currently undertaking an apprenticeship to aim higher as anything’s possible.

Here at Variohm, we are huge supporters of apprenticeship schemes. As well as Jordan, we have Jacob Upton who completed an engineering apprenticeship with us in 2020. He is now completing his HND qualification and plans to go into a 1-year top-up degree. During his time as an apprentice, Jacob won the AMI Manufacturing Apprentice of the Month award, as well as the Engineering Trust 4th Year Highly Commended Apprentice Award. He also was nominated for the Northampton Chambers of Commerce Apprentice of the Year, where he finished in the top 3 apprentices in Northamptonshire.

Additionally, we have two current mechanical engineering apprentices. Thomas Archer and Kyle Harlick joined us in 2021 and are progressing through their qualifications. You can read about them in our introductory blog here.
