Variohm Engineers Take on a Challenge for Prostate Cancer UK

We are often asking customers to â€Challenge Variohm" when it comes to applications

At the end of this month, our Engineering department are taking on a challenge of their own; the National Three Peaks Challenge.

Our Engineering department has four members, Richard Kelley, Zahan Sellers, Jordan Barber and Nathan Adams all four of them will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge. This challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland within a 24 hour window.  The three mountains are Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

The team are completing this challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, if you would like to sponsor them, please visit their Just Giving page where you can also read about the training they have been doing.

Richard explains the reason behind taking on this challenge “Our intention was to team build and get to know the team better.”

Training for the Three Peaks

Richard, Zahan, Jordan and Nathan have been training for the challenge since Christmas taking part in various walks and climbs within England including the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which they completed at the beginning of the month.  Jordan says “The training is going very well with us all doing walks and recording our weekly mileage, which Nathan then updates onto our just giving page – as part of the training Richard, Nathan and myself completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 10.5 hours doing the final peak in darkness.”

In the past, Richard has completed a few challenges for charity, including two half marathons, last year he was joined by Jordan and Nathan to complete the Tough Mudder which is a 10-12 mile run with over 20 obstacles throughout. Richard describes his experience “I have found it a personal challenge to keep as fit as people half my age, but feel that my fitness has improved massively as a result of the competition.  Of course, I have to accept in the end that youth will win through…..but I will give them a good run for their money.”

The guys are really looking forward to the Three Peaks Challenge, Nathan says “We have taken the time to plan our route so that if all goes to plan and we keep to the schedule, we will see the sunset on the top of Scafell Pike and then arrive at the top of Snowden for Sunrise. So I am most looking forward to the weather being clear and seeing these two moments at two of the highest natural points in England and Wales.”

As a team, our Engineering department are working really hard and enjoying working together; Richard says “We are already talking about the next challenges….and I will be keen not to be left behind.”

Nathan says “Personally I believe that we are going to smash this challenge and have a bit of a laugh whilst doing it.”

Jordan’s advice for everyone is; “Just keep calm and carry on plodding”

Overall the Engineering team are really looking forward to taking on this challenge and would love it if you are able to sponsor them. All sponsorship money goes to Prostate Cancer UK who are a charity dedicated to all aspects of helping people fighting prostate cancer through diagnosis, treatments, prevention and general support.
