Phoenix America launches comprehensive range of Hall effect programmable angle sensors that suit use across all areas of industry

Recently launched by Phoenix America, Variohm EuroSensor’s sister company, AM-RSS series programmable angle sensors offer exceptional application flexibility for high duty cycle position feedback applications where long life, maximum durability and competitive cost are essential. These robust and compact sensors feature non-contacting Hall effect measurement technology in an IP68-sealed housings, with two radial slots for mounting and a standard choice of U-shaft, D-shaft, and spring coupling drives.  Available as single- or dual-channel redundant versions for angle measurement from 30 to 360 degrees (programmed in one-degree steps), with a input voltage of 5V, with output options of either a ratiometric analogue output or PWM signal ensures that the AM-RSS will suit position feedback tasks across all areas of industry. Thanks to its flexible manufacturing capability, Phoenix America can also supply customised versions of the AM-RSS series on request - with electrical, mounting and shaft modifications as well as conformity to specific industry standards; an example being an aerospace standard such as DO160-G.

The independent linearity for the AM-RSS sensor is specified at +/- 0.5% of each signal range with a repeatability better than 0.2% subject to mounting tolerances. There are two flange mount options available as standard with either a 32mm PCD (42.5mm diameter housing)) or 38mm PCD (48mm diameter housing). The encapsulated housing design provides a robust seal for the sensor electronics – at least to IP68 - and helps to ensure extreme resilience to vibration, meeting IEC 60068-2-6 with a 20 g rating at 5...2000 Hz.

The standard shaft options all include 316 stainless-steel hardware – ensuring excellent corrosion resistance. The AM-RSS further impresses with its life cycle specification and temperature range. Typical working life is more than 50 million movements thanks to the non-contacting design. The sensor’s working temperature range is dependent on the electrical cable option selected, offering two choices:  -40°C to +85°C for PUR cable and -40°C to +125°C for high temperature DR25 cable. Cable length is 500 mm standard and connector options are available on request.

Phoenix America is a member of the Variohm Holdings Group of Companies which is part of the LSE-listed discoverIE Group plc (LSE: DSCV). Based in Fort Wayne - Indiana, USA, the ISO 9001-2015 designer and manufacturer delivers high-resolution magnetic encoder and sensor technologies including cost-effective absolute and incremental encoders, speed and proximity sensors, custom moulded magnets and more.
