Wachendorff’s new WDGN industrial shaft encoders have freely configurable line count via NFC App

Wachendorff Automation has launched a new variant line of incremental rotary encoders that allow users to freely program the encoder line count and set-up characteristics using an Android NFC App. With its quadrature line count configurability from 1 ppr up to 16,384 ppr as well as selection of TTL or HTL outputs, ABN channels plus inverted signals, and a 4^th channel option, the new WDGN is available in nine selected standard models with 36 mm or 58 mm industrial grade housings. With its integrated NFC feature which also allows full readability, the new field-configured WDGN is a development of the recently launched WDGP series that includes a similar definable pulse count option which is factory configured. Available with full support in the UK from Variohm EuroSensor, the new WDGN series will allow machine builders and OEMs flexibility on several levels. In development scenarios, customers can optimise the encoder count in-situ and specify their required resolution for production quantities from the lower-cost WDGP encoder series. For OEMs, optimal spare parts, logistics and warehouse savings can be realised by maintaining a smaller stock of the WDGP and configuring the required resolution and other characteristics on-site, world-wide. The 4^th Channel option (4CH) also enables added application functionality – for example to select multiple resolution counts for each channel and/or program additional zero pulse positions.

As with all Wachendorff high precision incremental encoders, the patented magnetic sensor technology ensures exceptional durability and extremely high resistance to shock and vibration with substantial axial and radial shaft loading specifications combined with a wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C.

Across the standard offerings for WDGN 36 mm and 58 mm diameter encoders, stainless-steel housings and hardware sealing provide IP67 protection class (IP65 for the shaft). An IP67 + IP69K version is available that is suited to the most challenging applications such as washdown and high-pressure steam cleaning. Enhanced axial and radial loading up to 300 N is also available. The NFC antenna is encapsulated in polyamide thermoplastic and all standard models include servo flange or clamping flange mounting options. Input power ranges from 4.75 to 32V DC with reverse polarity and short circuit protection. The NFC antenna option may also be optionally specified across the Wachendorff range of highly durable magnetic incremental encoders as a custom modification.
