OIML and NTEP Approved Load Cells OIML and NTEP Approved Load Cells When looking at load cell information and datasheets there are often certifications and approvals - what do these approvals mean? What are OIML and NTEP Load Cells? Load cells being used in commercial and legal applications must legally be certified as “Legal for trade” by an approving body to ensure they meet the required regulations. This can apply to both load cells and associated electronics used within weighing systems. The certification ensures that they are operating to a level of accuracy to allow them to be used in certain applications. These approvals ensure that the load cell and electronic components conform to a common, agreed set of requirements. To gain the approval, load cells and other components are subjected to a demanding series of tests and checks. The Organisation International Metrology Legal (OIML) is a common approving body for load cells and recognised in most of the world. National Type Evaluation Programme (NTEP) is another, NTEP is used more within the United States. OIML and NTEP Approved Load Cells from Variohm Many of the load cells we can offer at Variohm have either OIML or NTEP approvals or sometimes both. The details of each approval can be found on the datasheet of each load cell.
