What is a Sensor?

A sensor is a device used to measure or monitor a change in the immediate environment. This could be a movement of an object, monitoring weight, temperature change, pressure, strain, motion, and many other changes.

There are different types of sensors and various sensor technologies used.

Position Sensor Technologies

Position Sensors is one of our most popular categories and one of our largest ranges which includes linear and rotary position sensors. The sensor technologies we can offer includes both contacting and non-contacting, some of these are; hall effect, inductive, conductive plastic potentiometer, LVDT, magnetoresistive, Positek PIPs, encoder.

Pressure Sensor Technologies

Pressure transducers are another popular category for us. Our range includes pressure transducers and pressure switches. Our pressure transducers use strain gauge technology to measure pressure. There are various types available for use in different environments, for example underwater, intrinsically safe, and industrial. Our pressure switches are available in different types and well suited to different environments. Pressure switches can measure differential, gauge and absolute pressure.

Temperature Sensor Technologies

The various temperature sensing technologies we can offer at Variohm include NTC thermistors, RTDs, thermocouples, digital temperature sensors, infrared sensors as well as customised temperature sensor assemblies which are manufactured onsite. Our temperature sensors are well suited to a variety of industries and have relevant approvals.

Load and Force Sensor Technologies

We offer a wide range of load cells that are well suited to a whole host of weighing applications, this includes any type of scale, onboard weighing, marine applications, medical applications, tension and compression applications, industrial weighing applications. Most of our load cells use strain gauge technology to be able to accurately measure load and force.
