Throttle Position Sensor Throttle position sensors form part of the fuel management systems on vehicles, they are part of our product range at Variohm. We have a range from our trusted suppliers and also a range which we have designed and built ourselves. What is a throttle position sensor and what does it do? Within a motorsport engine - or the engine of any vehicle, there is a throttle valve. The throttle valve opens when the accelerator pedal is compressed. A throttle position sensor is used to measure how open the throttle valve is and therefore controls the amount of air which can flow into the engines intake manifold. The throttle position sensor is mounted onto the throttle body and measures the opening and closing movements of the throttle valve and these are transmitted to an engine control module, this information, as well as other measurements including; temperature, engine RPM and mass air flow (MAF), are used by the engine control module to determine the amount of fuel being injected into the engine and the spark timing. Many Throttle Position Sensors use non-contacting technology such as; Hall Effect, magnetostrictive or inductive technologies are used. What is the importance of a Throttle Position Sensor? Without a throttle position sensor, there would be no way for the engine control module to monitor the amount of fuel needed or be able to time the ignition effectively causing the engine to surge or stall, this can be very dangerous for the driver and other road/track users. Throttle Position Sensors Available from Variohm Many of our throttle position sensors possess similar features to each other; Simple mounting Outstanding repeatability Long life IP67 protection rating Operate in a wide temperature range Our Euro-XP range has added features including; Hall effect technology Programmable angles from 30 - 360 Redundant output Short lead times Long life Extremely robust IP67/68 protection Euro-XP - Programmable angle sensor Euro-XPK - Puck programmable angle sensor Euro-XPD - D shaft programmable angle sensor VTP11 - also part of our Throttle Position Sensor range, has the following features; Simple flange mounting Conductive plastic track for durability Long life IP66 protection Wider operating temperature range Excellent under vibration CMRK -one of our newest throttle position sensors and part of our micro range.
