Uses for Cable Extension Transducers

Cable extension transducers are one of our product categories that form part of our Position Sensor range.

Cable extension transducers are also called string pots, draw wire sensors, yo yo pots, string encoders or cable actuated position Sensors.

Cable extension transducers are used to precisely measure linear position and are well suited to wet, dirty and out-door environments. They can be installed quickly and are available in a wide range of stroke lengths from 25mm to 43M.

We have been distributing Cable Extension Transducers for a number of years into various markets for different applications. Some of the more memorable applications we have been involved with are:

• Transportation systems – cable extension transducers are used for safe and reliable positioning and control 
• Ferry Loading ramps- the cable transducers help with the control of 10m hydraulic ramps to ensure both level and docking height requirements. 
• Flight simulator movements – in this application the cable extension transducer is used to enhance the flying simulation experience by improving the control sensitivity.  
• Lifting Bridge – Cable Extension transducers are used on the bridge linking Canning Town to Leamouth Peninsula in London. This bridge is raised vertically to let boats pass and travel down the river.
