SP2800 Rotary Position Sensor
A potentiometer is a variable resistor which has the ability to regulate or change the flow of a current through a circuit. Rotary potentiometers can be controlled easily by turning a knob or spindle. They are available as either single or multiturn.
We offer a full range of rotary potentiometers in a variety of housings, utilising both cermet & conductive plastic technology.
In addition to our rotary potentiometers, we also have a range of rotary position sensors. This includes our own range of miniature Hall effect sensors for applications where space is extremely limited.
A rotary potentiometer for sensing tasks should be operated as voltage divider and has three terminal contacts in total. Two of the terminals are placed at either end of a semi- circular resistive track. The third terminal is connected to the resistive element using a sliding contact and attached to a rotary element. This is then connected to the object/element which requires measuring.
As the rotary element is rotated, the third element slides along the internal resistive track. This causes a change in the resistance and the voltage can then be measured and directly related to the altered position.
There are many uses of rotary potentiometers where smooth voltage control is required.
The range of rotary potentiometers we offer from our trusted suppliers can be seen above.
The main features of our rotary potentiometers include:
Rotary position sensors are used across all industries, with one well-known application being a volume dial on an amp or other electrical device. In this instance, the sensor would be a single turn potentiometer, with the position of the dial determining the voltage within the circuit and therefore the volume of the music/instrument.
Rotary potentiometers are also used within the following industries for applications including;
All of our rotary potentiometers are shown above. If you would like more information or would like to discuss your application please contact us.
