Submersible Pressure Transducer Applications

Submersible pressure transducers have been designed to measure pressure underwater or in other types of non-corrosive liquid.

Submersible pressure transducers are well known for being extremely robust and, of course, watertight, this means they provide an excellent solution for monitoring underwater pressure for either indoor or outdoor applications.

What is a Submersible Pressure Transducer?

Submersible pressure transducers measure the pressure within a liquid to determine the volume of liquid in each area, usually within a tank. As the amount of liquid in the tank changes, it is reflected in the measured pressure.

Submersible pressure transducers sometimes have ATEX/IECEx Ex certifications so that they can be used in intrinsically safe environments. They are completely sealed for submersion but are vented through the cable, so they are able to correct for barometric pressure changes.

Submersible Pressure Transducers Applications

Submersible pressure transducers can be used for many different applications where liquid level detection is required. They can measure various types of liquid, some of the more common ones are water, fuel, leachate, and others.

It is important to know the liquid within the application as different liquids may have corrosive properties and this will affect the efficiency of the pressure transducer.

It is also important to take into considerations the depth of the liquid in the application as some underwater pressure transducers may have a limit. Usually, lower depth tolerances will be lower cost.

Some applications for submersible pressure transducers are;

  • Building automation controls
  • Environmental sites
  • Ground water level measurement
  • Earthen & concrete dams
  • Fertilizer tanks
  • Irrigation systems
  • Wastewater canals
  • Liquid tanks
  • Oil tanks
  • Safety in scuba diving applications
  • Measuring depths of various subsea equipment
  • Bio-fuels
  • Gasoline and diesel fuel tanks

In any area where the volume of liquid is required to be measured, a submersible pressure transducer will be required.
