A load cell is a type of transducer which is used to convert mechanical force into a measurable electrical output, anything which needs to be weighed probably uses a load cell to do so. Load cells come in many different shapes and sizes so that they can be added to different machinery and weighing equipment. Some of the load cells we supply are as small as a 5p piece!

Types of load cells

There are many different types of load cells which have different characteristics for different applications.

  • Single point
  • Shear beam
  • Compression
  • Pancake
  • Bending beam load cells
  • Dual shear beam
  • Bending beam
  • Miniature

What are load cells used for – more common applications

As explained above – anything which requires weighing will probably use a load cell to do so. This means that there are load cells present every where in everyday life. Here are some of the uses of load cells which you may have come into contact with.

  • Kitchen and bathroom scales
  • Self-service checkout
  • Weighing luggage at the airport
  • Pallet weighing

What are load cells used for- industrial specific applications

Load cells are also used in many more industry-specific applications

  • On-board weighing
  • Platform weighing
  • Belt scales
  • Overhead track scales
  • Hopper scales
  • Weighing agricultural produce
  • Medical equipment
  • Weighbridges

Overall; load cells are used throughout many industries for weighing and force management by taking the force and converting it into an electrical output
