A Pressure Transducer, sometimes referred to as a pressure transmitter, is a type of sensor which converts pressure into an analogue or digital electrical signal.
Pressure Transducers are generally robust, strong and able to withstand harsh environment conditions. This makes them suitable to a range of applications and particularly well suited to more industrial applications as they offer excellent accuracy and high strength. Very often, pressure transducers are resistant to water and dirt with high IP ratings, they also have a wide operating temperature range.
The basic way in which a pressure transducer works is; a pressure transducer has an internal diaphragm and a pressure port. Pressure applied to the pressure transducer through the port will cause the diaphragm inside to deflect. This deflection is measured and then converted into several different output signals e.g, voltage, current and digital. This enables the pressure to be monitored by electronic instruments including microprocessors, computers and programmable controllers.
Most Pressure Transducers will produce linear output with applied pressure.
Almost all of the products in our own range of pressure transducers (EPTs) have no internal o-rings, this gives them even higher accuracy and a longer life.
Pressure within the diaphragm of the pressure transducer is calculated using a simple formula; Pressure (P) equals force (F) divided by area (A)
P=F/A
The force applied is generally created by liquids or gases but can sometimes also be generated by vapours
The most commonly used pressure measurements are Pascal, Bar or PSI. descriptions of these measurements are as follows;
Pa - [Pascal] in 1 Pa = 1(N/m²)
Bar - [Bar] in 1 bar = 105 ????
psi: (pound(-force) per square inch)
Most of the pressure transducers on our website take their pressure measurements in Bar - the range for each individual product can be found on the data sheet.
At Variohm, we know that different applications will require different specifications for pressure transducers; this is why we have a range of configurable pressure sensors to ensure all customer specific needs are met.
Our pressure transducers have a robust modular design; with a stainless steel housing and a welded housing to the pressure port itself. They come in a range of sizes with the smallest starting at just 12mm in diameter for applications where space is tight.
We can offer pressure transducers with specifications including:
Pressure transducers are used throughout Test and Measurement, Automotive, Medical and many other industries for applications requiring pressure measurement.
Pressure transducers from Variohm are well suited to the following applications.
Our range of pressure transducers is shown above. Full product details and access to datasheets can be found by clicking on the products.
